In October, my friend and coworker moved on to begin research for a book. It’s very exciting that he will now have more time for writing but he has been dearly missed, not only by Mandy and Myself but by many of the others.
Last week I was assigned the task of shredding some of his old work notes, they had been found in a drawer at the Orange Office. There was A LOT of paper. Most of it was copies of old work processes. It was clear by just the amount of paper that my friend truly is a historian and researcher at heart. I keep nowhere close as many detailed notes as he did. Just as the shredder was about to revolt (via overheating and shutting down) I stumbled on some handwritten notes on computer paper.
I didn’t mean to snoop, and honestly my intention was just to complete the task before lunch and then move on with my shift; but a few of these papers caught my eye.
Maybe I have been trying too hard lately to see things as beautiful... Because I found that I could not shred several papers. My friend’s hand writing, as well as the words he wrote down looked to me exactly like what I would attempt to create if I were to try to create random and interesting words for a painting or an art piece.
I took the handwritten papers, duplicated them (yes I admit on the work copier) and then began to draw on them. I then copied them again (I don't know why, except that it was my lunch break by then and I felt inspired.) After drawing a bit I broke out my colored pencils. My shift ended and then at home, I added some watercolors. The above are the result my inspired efforts.
We miss you Peter. Very best on your future endeavors.
